We’re Baaack!

Posted By admin on November 2, 2011

Miss us? That tour last summer really wore us out. Sorry, old chaps!

But we’re back with more Tales to delight and astonish. Episode One of “Vampires and Werewolves and Bears!” (Oh my!) will take place as the opening entertainment for the Dungeon Master show this Sunday the 6th at 7pm.

Following that, we shall return to The Spot in Culver City for the remainder of our run:

- Free Parking
- Nummy Food
- Comfy Couches…if you get there early enough.
- And of course, YOU as the Foley Artists!

See you there!

A Fan Letter!

Posted By admin on June 4, 2011

We received this glowing letter of praise from a fan in Tallahassee just as our tour kicked off, and we wished to share it with the world:

“Years ago, I saw a flyer for a CD release party (which I had already missed) for a group called Curious Echo Radio Theater. A link on their site led me to 19 Nocturne Boulevard, and from there a universe of audio drama opened up to me, a universe that I had no idea was there. Your show has been one of the stars in that universe.

I have been a video editor for about 20 years, so I know that there is a lot of work behind your shows, just on the post-production side of it. But I also know there is a ton of work even before the first word is spoken into the microphone: the writing, the rewriting, the casting, the rehearsing, and all the other things it takes to make a production work. For your show, you have the additional challenge of finding venues for your live shows. And because that’s not enough of a challenge for you, you’ve decided to take the whole show on the road for a west coast tour! My hat’s off to you!

I mentioned that I found your site through finding 19 Nocturne Boulevard. Hearing you on her shows, and hearing her on yours, graphically illustrates that there really is a community of artists who make their works almost entirely through sheer determination, cooperation with like-minded souls, and a love of their craft. A short time ago, Julie was kind enough to allow me to work on a couple of pieces she had written for her show, which was a pleasure for me, and it afforded me the opportunity to contribute to an artist and a genre that had been such a source of happiness for me.

I don’t think I can do anything like that for your show, so the least I can do is contribute to such a worthy cause. Please keep up the good work. I truly enjoy and appreciate all the work you’re doing.

Say hi to Julie for me!”

Julie is, of course, our new Vesper Kingsley since the “To Russia With Love” story arc. She reprised her role in Seattle on the tour (which went well, btw). We’re editing the episodes now! Really!

Tour of the Extraordinary is go!

Tomorrow, Monday the 23rd, we will hit the road on tour!

May 23rd: San Francisco Show (Wherein our heroes have a run-in with one of the Unknown’s former enemies, while Dickie impersonates Albert Einstein)

…after which we will pack up the car and drive all night to…

May 24th: Portland, OR (Wherein Dickie battles a mechanical spider ["the fiercest killer in the insect kingdom"] and Shinobu is mistaken for a prostitute in Portland)

May 29th: The Re-Bar Seattle (Wherein Vesper Kingsley attempts to rescue a kidnapped Dr. von Kliegel in Turkey and Randolph Moon discovers a hidden society underneath Seattle)

June 6th: Return to L.A. (Wherein we meet the Worldwide Federation of Wrestling and Little Dickie is reunited with a presumed-dead nemesis)

And as if that is not enough, we will have a special Epilogue event on June 20th in Hollywood (Location TBA), complete with music and period-garbed soiree! Pip pip!

Tell your friends…tell your enemies…tell you frenemies! And see you at the show!

Tour of the Extraordinary

Hey you out-of-towners!

We’re spreading the Tales up and down the Left Coast in less than three months. Live Tales shows will be coming to San Fran, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver (visas willing), the week of May 22nd~29th. Are you excited?

Good! Cause we still need to book venues and collect some guest voices. If you have any leads/recommendations, please send them to us by electronic mail…comments here are ignored due to massive amounts of spam. So very sorry.

Extraordinary flyer coming…

“The Islands” at Meltdown Comics!

Posted By admin on January 15, 2011

We have not been slacking over here at Empty Sea Studio…if anything, we’ve been too busy to update here. That and the fact that we are suspicious that no one actually reads the news feed. Still, we have the announcement of our new run of shows at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood:

And we’ve already got the first episode done just in time for the second show this coming Monday. Full of crazy cultists of Buru, klan members in Rhode Island, and pish-posh antics with Dickie in Hong Kong. Have a listen, won’t you?

Ready for Summer?

We are! With three bits of News for you, brave listeners…take heed:

1) We are soon to be recording the next story arc, entitled, “To Russia With Love.” One of our fans, and live show attendees, Marc Hayworth, came up with that little gem. Randolph Moon kidnapped, The Staff of Khan stolen, and The Unknown out of town. Once Taliesin Jaffe returns from the other coast, we shall put it down to (digital) tape!

2) Lest you thought we’d forgotten about the YouTube of the Extraordinary, we are almost done with Episode Two of ‘The French Affair’ visual story. Here’s a taste:

And 3) Should you wish to comment on any of our news items, please send email. Comment spambots have completely hijacked the Comments section…hence the 0 comments on every post. We no longer even look at them.

Have a comment, question, accusation? Hit the Mail link up above and let us know. We feel like we’re in a bubble sometimes. Let us know you are actually reading this, if you please!

Many thanks…

At last, the first chapter of “The French Affair” from the 1920’s pulp adventure radio serial, Tales of the Extraordinary, transformed into a visual slideshow.

Keeping up with The Wettening?

Posted By admin on April 5, 2010

Episode Three is now up, recorded LIVE at the Dungeon Master show in Hollywood:

The Wettening (in New Orleans)

Wherein Gatsby talks (again), the Contessa makes a career change, and a racist plantation owner is uncomfortably racist…

Ah, Louisiana!

Castro! Voodoo! Zunes and YouTube!

Posted By admin on February 9, 2010

For thos who missed it, the second episode of Mr. Mojito’s Voodoo Review went up last week!

Wherein Barry ‘preenacts’ Enemy Mine, Gatsby is rescued with booze, and Dickie meets the Castros!

Also, I found out three interesting things today:

1) People still use Zunes
2) Zune has a podcast marketplace.
3) Tales of the Extraordinary is on it:

And for those keeping up with our YouTube video we’re prepping, here’s a quick scene from the French Affair we put up as an example of what we’re trying to do:
